At SEUCC, we believe transformation happens when people Believe. Belong. Become. That’s why our worship blends gospel and contemporary praise, our ministries uplift every generation from toddlers to elders, and our outreach moves beyond charity into real, sustainable change.
Over the past year, I’ve spent significant time in discernment—not just about what’s next for South Euclid United Church of Christ, but about who we truly are at our core. Tonight, I want to share a statement that expresses our identity in a way we’ve never publicly said before:
We are a sacred community of dreamers—believing by faith in Jesus Christ, belonging through courageous connection, and becoming the unfolding of God’s wildest dream.
This is not replacing our mission statement. Our mission remains central and strong:
Transforming the lost into the found, and the found into followers of Jesus Christ who gather, grow, give, and go.
So what’s the difference?
Our mission describes what we do.
Our identity names who we are.
And the formula Believe. Belong. Become. is how we hold the two together.
This formula gives language and structure to how we live out our identity and how we accomplish our mission. It helps us form people spiritually in a way that is both deeply personal and communally powerful.
Defining the Formula
Let me define each word clearly and theologically:
To Believe
"I believe; help my unbelief." — Mark 9:24
To believe is to begin. It’s the entry point, not the finish line. It welcomes questions. It welcomes doubt. It honors spiritual courage over certainty. Belief, in this sacred community, is not about uniformity—it’s about surrendering to possibility.
To Belong
"All who believed were together and had all things in common..." — Acts 2:44
To belong is to be known without pretense and loved without performance. It’s not about fitting in—it’s about being held in sacred connection. Belonging is what transforms SEUCC from a ministry platform into a spiritual home.
To Become
"For I know the plans I have for you..." — Jeremiah 29:11
To become is to evolve into the person God dreamed when God made you. It means being shaped, stretched, and sent. It’s not just about personal purpose—it’s about divine process. This is the "go" in our mission. Becoming is movement. Becoming is legacy.
