Program/Management/Supervisory Scope: The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice exercises a level of responsibility as designated by the Executive Minister or Chief of Staff at South Euclid United Church of Christ (SEUCC).
Basic Function: The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice is responsible for the execution, implementation, administration, coordination and training of the Social Justice Ministry of South Euclid United Church of Christ (SEUCC). The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice will be the representative to Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC) and work in collaboration with GCC regarding community organizations. The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice is responsible for coordinating activities with regards to the new-member orientation process and the new-member assimilation process. The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice trains volunteers who utilize their spiritual gifts in service to the church, assists with event-planning activities, provides hospitality support, and ensures that disciples are fully engaged in the life of the church.
Duties and Responsibilities
Requirements, Skills & Abilities: A Master of Divinity Degree is required from an accredited seminary. The candidate must be licensed or ordained, plus possess five (5) years’ experience in social justice and discipleship. The candidates must possess direct management experience of staff, with prior, preferred, experience in a multi-staff church setting. The candidate must be a self-starter and possess the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and exemplary personal conduct. The candidate must be highly organized and possess the ability to work well with others and create a collaborative environment for staff. The candidate must also possess the ability to think critically/systematically and the ability to identify, equip, and deploy new leaders.
The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organization, verbal, and written communication skills. The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. The candidate must possess the ability to supervise multiple projects concurrently. The candidate must possess the ability to focus on details, prioritize and meet deadlines, and possess proficiency in Microsoft Office, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, along with other computer-based technologies, including the Internet. Additionally, the candidate must possess a dynamic personal and growing relationship with Christ and possess the ability to model a growing faith in others.
Working Conditions: This position works in a clean, well-lit area. This position is not susceptible to job hazards. Additionally, this position does not require any unusual or excessive physical exertion. Local, out-of-state, and/or international travel may be required, as directed by the Executive Minister or Chief of Staff or the Senior Pastor & Teacher.
Work Schedule: The Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Social Justice generally works forty (40) hours with some evening and regular Sunday hours each week in accordance with the schedule personally arranged, and mutually agreed to by the Executive Minister or Chief of Staff or the Senior Pastor & Teacher. Attendance at Church meetings, staff meetings, staff development days, staff retreats (overnight), leadership summits, and other major events, which fall on weekends, holidays, early mornings, or evenings, in excess of (40) hours, is part of and/or inherent in the job in accordance with the needs of the Church, a department’s operational requirements, or special events.
